Stunning Georgian wedding venue Davenport House dates back to 1727 and is Grade I listed, featuring oodles of historical character and elegance. Sited outside the village of Worfield and within easy reach of Bridgnorth, the house is surrounded by tranquil views across the Shropshire countryside. I love the Grand Staircase, leading down into the Grand Hall, the perfect way to make a dramatic entrance into the spacious room where many couples choose to hold their ceremony, in addition to being the centre of the party as the day turns to night. The front steps and dramatic pillars which greet you at the front of the house are a perfect location for group photographs.

While Davenport House boasts many gorgeous rooms, including the contemporary and airy bridal suite, my favourite part of the historical country house is the opulent Saloon, at the heart of the building. The gilded table is a perfect spot for your wedding cake, the hand-painted wallpaper and marquetry flooring add charm, and the high-backed chairs and comfy sofas invite lingering and conversation. In winter months, the fire is lit, making the Saloon even cosier, while on warmer days the doors open out onto the terrace, lawns and lily pond, perfect for mingling and enjoying drinks in the sunshine.

The gardens and grounds are ideal for a quiet walk to soak in the day, or to play croquet, while more adventurous couples may seek out the swing tucked away near the ha-ha, or venture further out into the grounds to visit the picturesque Dovecote tower. The lawns in front of the lily pond also offer a beautiful ceremony location in summer months, with gorgeous views of the Shropshire countryside behind you.

The elegant Dining Room is sure to impress guests as they sit down for the wedding breakfast. Light pours in through the windows, illuminating the striking fireplace and historical portraits that adorn the walls, providing a lovely backdrop for speeches. For wedding guests wishing to stay over, Davenport House offers accommodation for 40 in the main house, with further space for guests available in four cottages.
